The Potential for Hemp is Out of this World

Will Kleidon, Founder and CEO of Ojai Energetics, cannabis IP, and the first Public Benefits Corporation in the cannabis space, understands that a triple bottom line is good for the planet and beyond.

Known as an award-winning pioneer responsible for the innovative and sustainable commercialization of cannabis, Will Kleidon founded Ojai Energetics back in 2014. Since that time, this futurist of cannabis technology has successfully cracked the code of CBD, leading to the development of a robust IP catalog including the antidote to THC intoxication, generating supercapacitors from hemp, and 30-second acting edibles.

First Hemp Public Benefit Corporation

Many may not yet be familiar with the term Public Benefit Corporation. This more modern business structure enables a public company to operate under a charter that binds said company to an environmentally and socially responsible focus, in addition to maximizing profit. This aligns perfectly with Kleidon’s “love and care for the earth and all its inhabitants” and his belief that “hemp is a major catalyst for humans to create regenerative systems and live in symbiosis with the planet.” Kleidon ensures that all aspects of Ojai’s business include a deep consideration of the environment. He also believes in a triple bottom line approach to business being a force of good.

Chess to Checkers

While in college, Kleidon was seeking out a CBD product for a personal need. Looking into the products he found, he quickly discovered that none could fill his personal needs or standards. Many were made with synthetic fillers, used artificial ingredients, and lacked third-party testing results. This fueled his desire to “create an organic CBD oil that I would feel good taking and feel good about giving to my friends and family.”

That drive, combined with his background in sustainable community development and holistic health, was just the right recipe for developing the IP for eighty percent of the current patents on the cannabis plant. When an IP analysis was performed in 2014, cannabis had been untouched; what did exist was unsophisticated. The canvas was essentially blank, leaving open all of the possibilities of this strange and complex hemp plant.

Understanding these possibilities with hemp and going through the labors of making them realities placed Kleidon and Ojai Energetics with a distinct advantage. Making plans for the long run, the company holds multiple patents from medical technology to life sciences and industrial use. When carbonized, hemp is “super effective at energy storage,” Kleidon said. “And it is incredibly cost-effective,” he continued. These qualities make hemp a frontrunner for the production of supercapacitors. This could likely open an entirely new level of access for renewable energy systems.

If you’re going to take a plant to space, it better be hemp

Hemp has been here for over ten thousand years. In every recorded era, hemp has been used for food, medicine, fuel, and fiber. It only makes sense that it should be taken with us to the final frontier, outer space. The CBD enriched and nourished endocannabinoid system is essential for astronauts to handle the oxidative stresses of space travel. This is part of what sets Ojai Energetics apart from the rest. Once they discovered how to make cannabinoids that are the correct particle size for the endocannabinoid system to properly engage, the technology can be used in a wide variety of applications.
